Latest Gig Guide

Photo of the Week
Phnom Penh will be treated again this weekend at the FCC with the return of Warapo. Be prepared for a totally great night of wine, music, and dance.

There are still many local bands out-of-action due to the 'samrak' of some of the members. This hasn't meant that this weekend is lacking in some totally great gigs.

The gig of the week this week has got to be Warapo when they return to the FCC Phnom Penh on Saturday night. If you missed them last time then don't this time! This band hails from Cuba and is a wonderful collection of totally danceable and exhilarating Latino numbers - see their story some of their songs and clips here.

The Teener Turners will play Equinox this Saturday night. They are one of the capital's newest combinations - specializing in indie rock. Anyone that was at the open-mic at Paddy Rice last week would have been treated to an acoustic preview of the band. So, together with Equinox's new sound stage and great dance area, it should be a good night.

There will be a changing of the guard at Studio 182 this weekend as Jus'Cynthia's stint comes to a climatic finish on Friday night and with the introduction of Sheila Cooper early next week. In between renowned singer and trumpet player Steve Lowry will come across from Bangkok for a Saturday night gig.

The Dream-Up Bar keeps the music happening this weekend also with an open-mic jam night on Friday night. Musicians are welcome to come down and play. There is some delicious food and lots of cold beer. Saturday night sees the venue host a blues-rock night with the Shangri-la band.

Stay tuned, because in September there will be some great gigs coming up at some of Phnom Penh's best music venues. (1) The Chinese House will be back online (2) MetaHouse is planning to introduce to us one of the best things to come out of the Cambodian music scene in years - with an all-Cambodian alternative rock band - Cartoon Emo. (3) The Cambodian Space Project return from France with the Kingdom's first 7" vinyl single release in 35 years.

Here's the latest gig guide.
