Hey,
More and more bands either in the making or playing around the traps in recent weeks. If you haven't seen them then you need to get out a bit more or get down to the jam sessions that are happening every week. In addition to the regular sets at
Setsara and
Paddy Rice, there was also one at the
Alley Cat last weekend.
In recent manifestations there have been several artists appear at these shows, including
TJ,
Richard Ian Green,
The Choppers (great new original three-piece),
members from
El Dealbreakers (in fact there a five members in this band with the possibility of more),
Melanie & Jet and different combos from
Los Poporks. There are several new bands in the pipeline also, including members from previous Phnom Penh ensembles
Balgass and the
Hellhounds.
In terms of jam sessions, there is another one starting up next week. Billed as the
Riverside Jam, it will be a regular weekly
unplugged jam that will happen at various locations around the city every Tuesday. The first one is happening this coming Tuesday in front of the Royal Palace at 7:00PM. It will have at it's disposal a gypsy double-bass as well as a Spanish box / percussion instrument - totally cool! All musicians welcome. Stay tuned for updates of locations in coming weeks.
Additionally,
Sharkys will be hosting a jam session this Sunday evening. It will no doubt feature a number of musicians who are in town for this venue's
15th Anniversary which will occur on this Friday and feature the
Curtis King Band. Should be a great night of rock & roll, blues and country. On Saturday at this venue will be
Captain Jack (formerly known as the Stone Daddies) who will perform with a new and exciting drummer for the night - cool!
Another international artist in the form of
Paul Janovskis (Australian blues guitar) will perform at
Paddy Rice this Friday and may be seen jamming at various locations around Cambodia in recent days, including Kampot and Kep.
Fans of
Los Poporks will have their last chance of catching the band in their current line-up this Saturday at the
Chinese House. Their current guitar player is moving outside the country and, as such, the band is looking for a replacement - contact the band if you are interested.
If you are in
Siem Reap this weekend then don't miss the HUGE double bill at the
X-Bar as the
Teaner Terners and the
Stiff Little Punks rev up Pub street on Saturday night.
Here's this weeks gig-guide.
