The Leng Pleng Gig Guide comes out on a Thursday or Friday of every week

Gig Guide - Thursday the 5th of May, 2011

This week streaming live from a hammock  in Ba Srae Commune, Angkor Borei District, Takeo Province.Yet again a packed Friday and Saturday this weekend with a total of 13 gigs - a couple of them which are very special indeed.

Mao's continues to fully support the local live music and DJ scene here with over 5 gigs in this week's guide. The feature gig this week will be the the Disco Fever 80s and 90s gig on Friday night with DJ CoolSam and DJ Bob Revo.

Friday night sees the very last performance of one of Cambodia's best known and appreciated expat bands - the Mekong Pirates - at Gasolina. There is no doubt this 14-member band will be very much missed in the capital because every time they have played the hosting venue has been packed to capacity. A packed dance floor inevitably ensues. The night will be celebrated with the release of the bands album - a collaborative combination of over 800+ tracks mixed and engineered by Anthony Mrugacz. There is little doubt as to the auspicious nature of this gig. Note the early start time of 7:00PM as an early finish is also required at this venue.

Another band that plays to packed venues and is also a totally well appreciated band here is Los Poporks. This band will also (probably) play its last gig at Equinox on Saturday night. They have been one of the best sounds you can party and dance to in Cambodia and their presence will also be sorely missed. Their members will unfortunately disperse to other overseas venues. Leng Pleng wishes all members the best of gigs wherever life takes them.

Another band who will leave the land of the Khmer, at least for the time being, is the Cambodian Space Project who will continue on their world-wide circuit of the musical universe with a tour of Vietnam followed by the UK later in in the year. There will probably be a couple of gigs by the band before this happens - keep tuned for  more details.

One of the mainstays of the local expat music scene has been Bum N Draze and the band will celebrate their 8th year of totally outrageous, full-on, growling rock at Sharkys this Saturday. They are supported by the Ramones tribute band Rock & Roll High School. A night of pure contrast can be had if you catch Bella Voce at the Intercontinental Ballroom earlier in the night ;o).

Watch out for the next album launch by the Teaner Terners as well as news a possible  Live Music Fiesta in Kampot at the end of June. More details next week.

Have a great weekend, be cool with each other, don't drink tooooooo much and see you around the traps. Here's this weeks gig guide.
