The Leng Pleng Gig Guide comes out on a Thursday or Friday of every week

Gig Guide - Thursday the 14th of July, 2011

Hey,

Back on board now after a brief hiatus due to the requirements of outside commitments. Hope everyone is getting stuck into the mid-year workload or is enjoying their sojourn back in their home country. It definitely seems July is a low season for the live music and DJ scene with most venues reporting a slow down in patronage over the past couple of weeks. I guess that makes things a lot better for us still here and able to enjoy the great selection of performers on offer this weekend.

Thursday at the Memphis Bar they are celebrating Bastille Day with a collection of French songs by Rock Xpress and probably a line up of special guests. There will be drink specials and a great night to be had no doubt. If you are looking for a relaxing beer tonight with a long list of well performed contemporary ballads and acoustic pop then Holliday in Cambodia are playing at Mao's.

The same venue will have the wonderful Sysé Swing in action on Friday - so always a great place to get down to do some swing dancing. The re-vamped Lazy Drunks will be playing at Sharkys on Friday night also. These guys keep getting better and better so get down there to get the latest mix. If you are in Siem Reap then you can get into some action at Aqua on this same night with DJ D'Tonn, DJ Matoo and  DJ Island painting the dance-floor with eclictical digital sound-waves.

Saturday night sees three big acts hitting the best 3 live music venues in town. Little Duke will totally wow the crowd with possibly the best guitar action available in town - totally not to be missed for Chicago blues lovers. He will perform with his band Little Duke and the Mekong Blues Messengers on Saturday at Equinox. This same night Mao's will present the great fusion of Khmer Rap with KlapYaHandz. Good venue with a great act - so get down there. Also, the Teaner Terners will play Sharkys on Saturday night with their unique and grungeable collection of original Indie rock tunes. Cool!

Heaps coming up with 2 new performers - Scoddy and The Quality Drops at Equinox (this will be a totally great gig - so keep it in mind) and Never Mind the Bollocks - a Sex Pistols tribute band at Sharkys.I will leave you this week with a video from one of Phnom Penh's favorite live-music artists who can be seen in this video from The Green Mist - see it below:

Have a great weekend, be cool with each other and see you around the traps. Here's this weeks gig guide.
