The Leng Pleng Gig Guide comes out on a Thursday or Friday of every week

Gig Guide - Friday the 2nd of October, 2012

Hey,

A short but sweet gig guide this weekend and plenty in the coming up section.

The Fumes appear at Sharkys this Friday as they are another venue hooking into the Halloween theme. On Saturday at the same venue you can catch the Kampot Playboys in action - cool! MetaHouse have a great couple of quality gigs on with the Belgian Beats on Friday and the Kimchi Collective on Saturday night. Expect a good quality gig this weekend at Equinox on Saturday night with the return of gypsy jazz ensemble of Balgass. Look for another gig in support of Tiny Toones with some great dancing and a collection of DJs and MCs from KlapYaHandz on Saturday at Pontoon. Also, a great place to drink beer and reminisce with the 80s to the 00s cover band Jaworski7 is at Paddy Rice on Friday. If wine is more your thing then the Red Apron on Saturday is what you are looking for, this week with a selection of jazz, crooner and bossa tunes. All-in-all a great variety of music which you can get into this weekend.

OK, now a few videos and MP3s plucked from various corners of cyberspace. If you have appreciated the collection of videos presented to you by Leng Pleng then you can see an auto-generated selection of some of them by You Tube anytime at http://www.youtube.com/blogs/lengpleng/videos.

Check out this totally great video from Dub Addiction. A great selection of scenes well put together by Amit Dubey of an original song by the band - very cool!

The Cambodian Space Project performed a song last weekend at Equinox called The Boat. This song is to be released on an album of songs by various artists from around the world playing together with prominent Australian performers. The Cambodian Space Project song is done in collaboration with Paul Kelly, who, for his compatriots, is one of the most appreciated of all Australian singer-songwriters. The song can be listened to with the link below.

Check out this song from the archives. A totally great band from late 60s and early 70s called Thrakha with some of the most of prominent of the surviving members still playing around Phnom Penh (more on that in coming weeks). Thanks to Mike Kraus and Julien Poulson for putting us onto them with this song.

Mark Chattaway of the Kampot Playboys is celebrating the birth of his first born son this week. Just the start of a new and great adventure Mark - total congratulations from all of us here at Leng Pleng.

From Ted and I here in the back streets of Phnom Penh, have a great weekend, be cool with each other and see you around the traps. Here's this week's gig guide.
