The Leng Pleng Gig Guide comes out on a Thursday or Friday of every week

Gig Guide - Week Starting Thursday the 2nd of May, 2013

Hey,

More great live music coming our way again this weekend. Look for the return of Joe Wrigely at Le Jardin's end-of-week beer in the garden on Street 360. The Fumes take their act to the Village for the first time on Friday and the Khmer-Western fusion of Kok Thlok will be rockin' at Equinox on the same night. Look for RNA as they return to Paddy Rice on Friday also.

Sharkys will feature a brand new band this week on Friday. They are called Jungle and will play two sets of totally original songs in both English and Russian. There will also be a few covers thrown into the mix. Cool! The same venue will feature Two Shots & a Chaser on Saturday.

If dancing an Irish jig is more your style then you have got to get to the FCC Rooftop and catch Kheltica. Always a high-energy, totally danceable and totally fun night with this band.

Sunday has two totally special gigs this week. The first starts at 7:00PM at the Alley Cat Cafe (in the small lane way behind the School of Fine Arts - Street 19). There they will be celebrating Mexican Independence Day - also known as Cinco de Mayo (or Cinco de Mango on this occasion). The band for this well known and well attended regular, annual event will be Up 2U Mango featuring Sam Day Harmett on bass and the wonderfully engaging vocals of James Speck together with his 12-string ukelele. Expect a great atmosphere.

The second auspicious gig on Sunday will be a band direct from Australia. They are known as The Rooftops and are Euan Grays' original and well known band from the land of prawns and barbie's. They are in town for Euan's wedding and so it should be a totally unique performance of 3 hours. A great opportunity to catch a great array of some quality jazz / roots / swing original tunes - many of which are inspired by Cambodia! Samples of the bands songs are available here - http://www.totherooftops.com. I featured a video from the band last week. This week I will feature a couple more:

Also, for your listening pleasure - here is a cut from the live tracks recorded at Equinox as Durian's last gig last week.

Also, the latest release from Krom. An other hauntingly beautiful original composition called The Wire. This song will be featured on the bands upcoming second album due for release later this year.

From Ted and I here in the back streets of Phnom Penh, have a great weekend, be cool with each other and see you around the traps. Here's this week's gig guide.
