The Leng Pleng Gig Guide comes out on a Thursday or Friday of every week

Weekly Wrap - Week commencing Thursday the 3rd April 2014

We have reached the first weekend of April and there is no sign of the music scene slowing down. Perhaps my fears of a dip in the number of gigs coming up, as expressed in last week's wrap, were a little premature. In fact, this weekend sees a bevy of international acts visiting the Kingdom of Wonder.

First off are the Frankistadors who are flying into Sharky Bar on Thursday night. Lead singer Franki Lore began her career in the classical world of the Opéra de Marseille and the Grenoble Conservatory before joining pop group 'Cops & Robbers'. The Frankistadors are her punk-pop-rock band and have been described by Sharky's as 'one of the leading lights of the contemporary music and arts scene in France!'

The Frankistadors
Impact are a live trio from the USA playing jazz, soul and R&B. Blue Rooney (bass/vocals), Teddy Temple (keyboards/vocals) and Charlette Chaney (vocals) begin a month-long residency at The Groove this Thursday. The band are professional musicians from the El-live Productions stable and are looking to bring a new flavour to the exquisitely-furnished Groove live music room in BKK1.

Kiss The Funky Monkey begin a short series of live dates in Cambodia at Meta House this Thursday, before travelling down to Kampot on Friday for Huge Munroe's weekly live music and DJ party at Bodhi Villa. The self-styled 'Monkey Pack' then return for a Saturday night show in Phnom Penh at Equinox. Kiss The Funky Monkey are five fun-loving German guys, 'playing a unique punk-pop, funk-rock blend'. Their 2014 world tour has already included a one-month stop in Indonesia and, following their gigs in Cambodia, the band will continue to Thailand, New Zealand, the USA and Canada! Kiss The Funky Monkey took a break from their hectic schedule to answer a few questions for Leng Pleng:
Will this be your first visit to Cambodia? What are your expectations?
This is our first visit to Cambodia and we’re really excited! We’ve been touring Indonesia for 4 weeks and just realised that Cambodia is another experience! We love Phnom Penh and especially the fact that life is taking place out in the streets. People are very nice and friendly. Our goal is to play a series of good shows and simply have a kick-ass time with the audience. Furthermore we are keen on exploring the culture and history of this country. We are really glad we put Cambodia on our list....READ THE FULL Q&A ARTICLE HERE
Pavel Ramirez has been busy since arriving in The Kingdom three months ago. The Chilean-born singer-guitarist has a vast library of covers at his disposal, honing his set over years of gigging and travelling across several continents. Pavel is very comfortable performing solo and has expanded his act further by collaborating with Russian singer Olga Andreeva and local Phnom Penh rhythm section TenTipz. The guys are in action no fewer than four times this weekend. You can catch them rocking the classics at Oscars 51 on Thursday, Paddy Rice on Friday, The Latin Quarter on Saturday and again at Oscars 51 on Sunday.
