PP Rock Show Band is
a newly-formed line-up of musicians taking to the stage this Friday
at Sharky Bar.
Graham Cain,
'Smokin' Kenny
Smith,
Dave
Zdriluk
and
'Khmer Sook'
comprise a band of huge experience and technical ability. The
repertoire will consist mainly of 1970's rock classics but musicians
of this calibre always have the potential to drop
a few surprises into
the set.
I will be sure to pop in and find out for myself and
possibly pick up a few fretboard tips from lightning-fast guitarist
Kenny Smith and
expert bassist Dave Zdriluk. In musical terms, Dave has a great
ability to be the absolute anchor of the band –
hearing
everything going on around him and condensing it all into the purest,
most vital groove.

The Kampot Playboys |
Down
in Kampot this Friday, one of the greatest bands in Cambodia at the
moment, The Kampot
Playboys,
will be rocking out the re-opening party of Rusty
Keyhole 2.
Hmmm, sounds like fun and more than enough reason to jump on a bus
heading south...
Saigon Rockers
is a reggae sound-system collective of DJs,
MCs and live performers based
in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Rockers travel to Phnom Penh for a
show at Slur Bar
on Saturday
evening, teaming up with MC
Kaztet Dee's
Wat a Gwaan
collective
for Jamaican Oldies Night.
No
live bands this time but expect a night of excellent reggae tunes
spun by DJs who know their stuff – together with several MCs
toasting live and
loud.
Check out the Saigon
Rockers
'Reggae Sunday' video below for a taste of the action.
Mekong Messengers return to Sharky Bar this Saturday. The two stars of this band are lead singer Kristen Rasmussen and lead guitarist Pavel 'zargz' Ramirez. Kristen has an incredibly strong and exceptional voice that commands the attention of everyone in the room while Pavel brings understated, nimble guitar licks and tricks. The Messengers have a repertoire of country, blues and rockabilly songs with a few soul ballads thrown in to allow Kristen to really 'belt'.
