Phnom Skor
is the latest project of
Vanntin 'Tin' Hoeurn
(formerly of Sliten6ix, Dirty Jacks).
Tin has teamed up
with RJ Marshall
(guitar), Danzo Ke’Aloha (bass)
and Mike Forster (drums)
to create a 'dirty blues' band – mixing up classic 60's and 70's
sounds with their own original songs. Tin
has an unpredictable and
sometimes chaotic stage
presence (you never know what the heck he is going to do next) but
can always be relied upon to
produce a genuine and exciting fusion of Khmer and Western
influences. Phnom
Skor (which
translates as 'Sugar Mountain') will play Sharky
Bar this
Friday evening.
The
guys at Pontoon have pulled in a hip-hop heavyweight for their
5th anniversary celebrations this Friday. DJ Cut Killer
made a memorable cameo appearance in the seminal French movie La
Haine – more than
twenty years ago. The
Parisian DJ has been rocking
beats all over the world ever since,
mixing the most audacious and lively hip-hop and rap tunes.
Phnom
Penh Underground
will be celebrating their second birthday on Saturday with a huge DJ
bash on the site of the former lakeside at Boeng Kak in Phnom Penh.
The
guys at Simone Art
Bistro
and Develop
Boueng Kak are
continuing their grass-roots community work in the area, as well as
putting on some great outdoor parties! DJs Sequence,
Cambo Disco Club,
B-Fox,
Tim Coates,
Donabelle,
Nora Haidee and
Dr WahWah will
all be spinning tunes, long into the night.
British
singer-songwriter Billy Page
is back in The Kingdom of Wonder, and back at the FCC for
an acoustic set each
Wednesday evening in January. Check out the excellent video above to
learn more about the traveling troubadour and his recent adventures
in Saigon.
Film-maker
Amit Dubey contacted Leng Pleng
to
let us know about his
recent collaboration with Phnom Penh musicians Miss
Sarawan Band,
Krom Monster
and Tara Mar.
Amit
is currently editing his latest movie Mind Cage,
a
tense psychological thriller
which features contributions from all
those
artists. You can contribute directly to getting the movie on to
cinema screens in Cambodia via the film's crowdfunding
campaign. Check
out Amit's video below to hear the story of the film so far.
Whatever you're up to over the next few days... stay safe out there and... see you around the traps!
