The Leng Pleng Gig Guide comes out on a Thursday or Friday of every week

Weekly Wrap - Commencing Thursday the 2nd June 2016

Corruptors is the new EP release by Nightmare A.D. The five tracks of 'thrash metal with strong tinges of hardcore punk and crust' were recorded for Yab Moung at the Cam Projects studio in Kandal Province. Phnom Penh-based musical whizz-kid Danzo Ke'Aloha produced the songs. You can listen to two of the cuts via the Nightmare A.D. Soundcloud page. Nightmare A.D. main-man Mike Priest recently wrote a short piece about the band for Leng Pleng check it out under our Articles and Interviews section.

The Corruptors CD will be officially launched with a live show at Oscar's On The Corner this Saturday night. Nightmare A.D. will be playing tracks from the EP together with other original songs, with copies of the CD and other band merchandise available for purchase on the night. Support sets will come from young Cambodian metal merchants Doch Chkae and French hardcore rockers Sangvar Day. This looks set to be a launch night that will shake the Street 104 venue to it's foundations!

As the blisteringly-hot temperatures in Cambodia start to relent, and the 'mango rains' begin to offer a welcome respite to dry and dusty streets, the options for live music begin to decrease just a little. Outdoor venues are not quite so much fun in torrential rain. Fortunately, there always seems to be something going on – however small. As always, check out the Leng Pleng Gig Guide below to keep abreast of what is happening. Also check out Scott Bywater's Phnom Penh Open Mic Facebook page for news of jam sessions in the city. It is still possible to pick up your instrument and go and give an impromptu performance with other like-minded musicians on almost any night of the week. As well as the longer-established nights like Sharky Bar (Sunday) and Paddy Rice (Thursday), there are a few 'hidden gems' such as The Gym Bar (Tuesday) and Jeffro's jam at The Irish Place (Thursday).

The FCC will be continuing their live music program during the rainy season – with all gigs to take place in the (well covered) rooftop bar. Joshua Chiang and Pervez Smart will continue their acoustic balladry each Friday night, with full bands taking the stage on Saturday nights. This Saturday, blues-rockers 4 On The Floor will regale customers with expert renditions of 1960's and 1970's guitar classics.

Youtube user Nehru Pry recently posted a cool video from the Battambang leg of Cambodian Space Project's 'Motown To The Mekong' tour. Check out the link below – can you recognise any of the funky dancers?

Whatever you're up to over the next few days, stay safe out there and... see you around the traps!
