Quiet and peaceful Pchum Ben in Phnom Penh ? Not really! The city may be emptying out but there are a bunch of high-energy electronic music acts visiting town this weekend. If you are not planning to join the exodus... join the party!

DJ Chamber is a DJ/Producer originally hailing from Bristol UK, currently based in Taiwan. He has previously played around the South-East Asian region but tonight (Thursday) will be his first visit to Cambodia. Nova Club will host the dexterous DJ, who remixes classic hip-hop with his own style of 'controller-ism' – using banks of buttons to trigger samples with his fingers, in the same way that a drummer uses a set of drums. Check out the DJ Chamber Youtube channel to find out more.
New Fame comprises of Adrienne Mack-Davis and Felicia Cruz – two MCs from North America, now relocated in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. As well as performing live to large crowds at various festivals and events, New Fame has a broader, non-musical mission as a 'multi-faceted entertainment company' with an interesting philosophy behind it: 'New Fame is the idea that we can all help ease each other from the gross mutation of ego by being a bit more humble to our own imperfections because that is the true human experience'. In Cambodia, the partner organisation of New Fame, Fighting for Futures, has been working on the prevention of human trafficking. New Fame will be performing a series of gigs in Phnom Penh over the next few days – beginning with a midnight appearance at Pontoon tonight. The duo will continue with a show at Mestizo on Friday night and performances at Lazy Gecko and new venue Hops on Saturday. Check out the above video for a clip of a performance in New York City.

Hypnotic Fist Technique are a brand new band born out of the Showbox weekly open mic session. Gaurav 'G' Raul and Michael Bridgett are a power tag-team of MCs backed up by a beefy live hip-hop band. Box regulars Paul Gillespie (bass) Ian (guitar) and Henrik Rasmussen (drums) will lay down the big beats while Danzo Ke'Aloha will produce some heavy and distorted sounds from keyboards and live electronics. Hypnotic Fist Technique will play their second-ever gig this Sunday evening at the grand opening of L Bar – situated on the former Boeng Kak Lakeside. This high-energy band sounds like just the thing to stoke up a party – and perhaps just the thing to shake up this whole town!
Best of luck and warm regards to the Batbangers band as they prepare to travel to South Korea for an appearance at the Zandari Festa – a music industry showcase festival featuring hundreds of bands from dozens of different countries (Zandari Festa website). The Batboys posted the below video on Facebook to let their friends and supporters know how excited they are to be journeying to Seoul for the show and how much they are looking forward to showcasing their own original songs (and some classic Cambodian rock'n'roll!) for an international audience. Good luck lads!
Whatever you're up to over the next few days, stay safe out there and... see you around the traps!
